if 3a minus 9 equals 6, what is the value of 5a plus 2? Also, if 2x plus 1 equals 5, what is the value of 3x minus 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3a-9=6\]?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 Its from Algebra one, and its solve each equation, then check your solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok fine, i was just asking if the first equation was \(3a-9=6\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, then to solve for \(a\) you need to first add \(9\) to both sides, what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0 and 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but actually it is \(3a=15\) when you add, since the \(3a\) is still there on the left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to solve \(3a=15\) you can either a) divide by 3, or b) think, "three times what number gives 15?"
