Am I the only one who finds this slightly irritating? Giving medals should be the default position. If someone answers your question satisfactorily, you should give a medal. It's little more than saying "thank you for taking your time to help me." I know others differ, but I don't care if I have 0 fans or 1000.

Where it is annoying to you or not, the basis of saying, "I fan and give medals" actually works.

A lot of new users do not know how to medal the answer after being assisted, most users have no issue with this however, to those who are SmartScore hungry, "I fan and give medals" is a huge motivation jump for them to assist that user faster, and of course what does the question asker want? An answer, given faster. So the theory really works.
