@bibby

OpenStudy (bibby):

isolate the variable we're solving for (x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you explain how to do that?

OpenStudy (bibby):

get x alone. add 8 to both sides to get rid of the -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then i would get x = -5?

OpenStudy (bibby):

the important thing to remember is that it's |x|

OpenStudy (bibby):

then recall the properties of absolute values. |-x|=|x|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer would be x = 3 and x = -3?
