Because there is little no no written documents on it... So a lot that is on prehistoric findings are just guesses not a lot f actual evidence... I know this because I was in archeology

Prehistoric art are mainly guesses, however there are actually many compatible sources that have been found, but we will never know the exact cause of the art or why, how, it was invented because they have all died off. Therefore we mainly make guesses about it.
