First, Odysseus gives Polyphemus a false name. Then, Odysseus and the men find a large olive stump and sharpen it into a massive spear, and hide in it. Next, Odysseus and the men feed Polyphemus wine until he is drunk and spear out his eye. After that they, hide with the sheep, and finally, sail away from the island..

Oh, and how they get out of the cave is, Polyphemus let's out the sheep to graze.
