Is this the correct solution for this: x(x-3) = 0 ?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

\[x=\pm3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its x=3 and one more answer, can u guess

OpenStudy (kainui):

Check for yourself, plug both answers in.

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

I see, that's wrong.

OpenStudy (kainui):

If I give you two numbers and say that when you multiply them together you get zero, written like this: \[\LARGE a*b=0\] then what do we know about a or b? Well we know very little but we do know absolutely for sure that \[\LARGE a=0 \ \ \ or \ \ \ b=0\] So if you look at what you've written, you have 2 things multiplied together. \[\LARGE x*(x-3)=0\] and similarly you can separate it out into two possible equations to solve. =)

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

x = 0, 3
