OpenStudy (ria23):

Solve the system of equations algebraically (using either substitution or elimination) 8x-2y=9 -12x+3y=5 I'm not sure how to use substitution and elimination won't work...

Nnesha (nnesha):

elimination can work but you have to multiply one of equation to get either x or y with same coefficient

OpenStudy (ria23):

How would yhu do that? 8 can't go into 12 and 2 can't go into 3...

Nnesha (nnesha):

yeah so multiply equation to get the equation balance but in your this question you have to multiply both equation

Nnesha (nnesha):

multiply first equation by 3 multiply second equation by 2 does it make sense ??

OpenStudy (ria23):

Then that would cancel out the y's.... I didn't know yhu could multiply both equations.... :o

OpenStudy (ria23):

O.o Wait, but if I multiplied by 2 and 3, it would also cancel out the x's because Id have a positive and negative 24...

Nnesha (nnesha):
