^^^ lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For all values of y, let y star symbol be defined by y star symbol = y^2 - 1. Which of the following is equal to (y star symbol) star symbol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please explain as well! I have the test tomorrow and I want to get that perfect score!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Oh you are taking the test tomorrow.. I have to take the PSAT next week.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

so basically plug in y^2-1 back into y

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

(y^2-1)^2-1 would be your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHH i see what i did wrong, i plugged it in but i forgot to do the ^2 after. i understand it thanks! lemme try and get the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y^4 - 2y^2! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Nnesha you too!

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

remember\[(a-b)^2=a^2-2ab+b^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i got that but there's a tagging - 1, that cancels the +1 out?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So\[(y^2-1)^2-1=y^4-2(y^2)(1)+1-1=y^4-2y^2\]

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

So yes you did it correct...
