The atoms and molecules in a liquid are in constant motion. As temperature decreases, what is true of the particles in the liquid?

OpenStudy (gorv):

motion also decrease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) the rate of particle movement decreases b)the distance between the particles decreases c)the attraction between the particles decreases d)The potential energy of the particles decreases

OpenStudy (anonymous):

option..!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) the rate of particle movement decreases

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u explain why its A please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They have less room to move, think about ice vs water vapor. http://www.gcsescience.com/e10-particles-solid-liquid-gas.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looking at the diagram would help a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The solid represents as the temperature would decrease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yuuuuuuppp..!!!!coz with the decrease of temp. the inter atomic forces get relaxed and become stronger,so that they try to fix atom or molecule at its place see the example of ice,,so aas a result it s motion will get slower and slower..!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh ok, i understand now! thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u welcome..!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hedyeh99 here the process is somthing different then this...as in diagram..!!! keep in mind the heating and cooling of liquid is not reversible process..!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you cool down again that gas in diagram u will not get the same solid retricein that diagram..!!!as it was in start.!!

Observation and experimentation have led scientists to accept a theory about the atom. This theory is called the Atomic Theory. Scientific evidence collected and observed by scientists over time suggests that the atom has a nucleus, containing protons and neutrons, and electrons that travel as waves around the nucleus. What makes this a scientific theory? It has been proven to be scientific fact through all the experiments and investigations. It is based on the beliefs and opinions of the majority of the scientific community. It is an observation of the natural world that has been proven as fact. It is based on many scientific investigations and is accepted by the majority of scientists.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would this be D? i think it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yuuupp..!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Coke or Pepsi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awsome thanks again man! i got one more if its okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the relationship between a scientific theory and a scientific law? A theory becomes a law after years of experimentation. A law becomes a theory after it is verified by scientists around the world. A law describes what happens but a theory explains why it happens. A theory is a mathematical prediction but a law is an explanation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@RAINIAR anyone you can serve..1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would that Be C?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zaibali.qasmi huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yuupp...C is more close to be true..!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyone can serve what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

coke or pepsi..!!!which you can avail easyliy..!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok, so a theory becomes a Law after more experimentation and exception correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes...thoery is given which turns to a law after prediction observation experments and theratics..!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhh ok, i alway get thoes 2 mixed up, can u explain what a Scientific statement is?
