tanx+cosx=secx+cscx

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

What is the question @mmclaughlin ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Prove the following identity

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

try converting tan x and sec x to sin and cos tan x = sinx / cos x and sec x = 1/cos x

OpenStudy (mathmath333):

this identity seems false

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes - I cant get them to equate

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

If we have to prove, I don't think it *can* be false.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

- well i think what math means is there might be a mistake in the question

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

sin x cos x 1 1 ---- + = ----- + ---- cos x cos x sin x that is not an identity

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

if you plug in x = 45 degrees you see it doesn't hoild

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

Okay, @mmclaughlin are you sure the question is right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not entirely, it seems like that it is not equal, but I'll just talk to my teacher on monday and see if there was some double angle, addition and subtraction, or pythagorean identitity that was overlooked
