when did the old stone age start

OpenStudy (nurali):

The stone age was a broad period of time which lasted about 2.5 million years. It is usually categorized into three groups or periods of time. These periods include Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic. I believe it is marked by the evolution of the genus, Homo, and the beginning of the manufacturing of tools. To determine the beginning of the age, archaeologists attempt to date the first created tools. This goes back to about 2.9 to 2.7 million years ago. I probably over-answered your question, I like to be thorough because sometimes it helps explain. I hope this helped! :)
