Well I know plato means plate in Spanish, but according to research "placa" is plate in Portuguese. I could be wrong though.

I have eaten a lot of empanadas during my trips to those countries. they can be stuffed with seafood, spinash, cheese, chicken, shrimps, or sweets like aples and peras too. Yummy.

My family makes a lot of empanadas too. They could be either filled with sweets or meat like gelidium said. Although, I am pretty sure they originated from Spain, and gelidium translated it right^
