The population of a city has increased by 35% since it was last measured. If the current population is 56,700 , what was the previous population? how do I do this?

Lets say the previous population of the city was X, then the current population should be 35% of X plus X, Right? so u'll get an equation in variable X, solve it for X. Can u do that?
