What does a client/server network need that a peer-to-peer network doesn't?

When things are peers, they are of an equal level. In computers that generally means they are some sort of end user device, like a desktop or laptop. A peer network would be where those end user devices talked directly to each other. Now, what do you thing is different in a server/client situation?
