In "Perseus and the Quest for Medusa's Head," why does Perseus have to bring the king the head of Medusa?

So Polydectes wants Perseus out of the way because he thinks he'll interfere with him marrying Danae. He asks people to bring him horses to collect gifts for another chick, Hippodameia, but Perseus doesn't have the means to get a horse, so Polydectes tells him to fetch the head of Medusa, thinking this will get him out of the way But Perseus is a badass and one of my favourite heroes
