The Endoplasmic reticulum has two parts. The Rough ER and the smooth ER. The rough ER contains ribosomes that synthesis protiens. These proteins are carried to the cells Golgi apparatus. The smooth ER contains no ribosomes and is used to construct lipids and deconstruct carbohydrates. The smooth ER also detoxifies substances that may harm the cell.
