OpenStudy (jmansedg):

What is the slope of the hypotenuses of the triangles in simplest form? http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1503500_1504000/1503534/1/41a3d0d45821a1d5a935cf8434ac536e79e72cc1/MS_IMC-140523-130903.jpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take two points: \(x_1(6,2)\) and \(x_2(18,6)\). Slope will be \(m=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}\). I am sure you can do it

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

idk

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

this is hard as hell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) You can do it. How about \(slope=\frac{rise}{run}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When y rises 4 (from 2 to 6), x runs 12 (from 6 to 18). Therefore, the slope would be...

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

4/12

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly. Good job

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

here is another one

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

Two right triangles with the following dimensions are graphed with their hypotenuses on the same line: triangle X: horizontal leg measures 4 units vertical leg measures 5 units triangle Y: horizontal leg measures 6 units vertical leg measures 7.5 units Which other triangles could also have their hypotenuse on the same line? Choose all answers that are correct. A. Horizontal leg measures 8 units, vertical leg measures 10 units B. Horizontal leg measures 3 units, vertical leg measures 3.75 units C. Horizontal leg measures 10 units, vertical leg measures 12 units D. Horizontal leg measures 12 units, vertical leg measures 15 units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The slope, in this case, will be \(\frac{vertical}{horizontal}\). In both example, the slope is \(\frac{5}{4}=\frac{7.5}{6}=\frac{5}{4}\). So to find other triangles, you should find the ones that have the ratio between vertical leg and horizontal leg of 5:4.

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

a c and d right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A and D are correct. B is also correct because 3.75:3 = 5:4. However, C is 12:10 = 6:5.

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

Triangle DEF is similar to triangle FGH. Both are right triangles. Which statements about the two triangles must be true? Choose all answers that are correct. A. Sides DF and FH are congruent. B. Triangle DEF is congruent to triangle FGH. C. Side DF has the same slope as side FH. D. Sides DE and FE are proportional to sides FG and HG.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think first? I would say C and D.

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

is it a c d

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For A, I think they are similar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But not congruent.

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

Which two triangles are similar? A. A and B B. B and C C. C and D D. A and C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think?

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right.

OpenStudy (jmansedg):

i got 60 and i need 80 to pass

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So take it again. I will try to help.
