in order for work to be done what three this are necessary

OpenStudy (gorv):

Work is the application of force to an object, and the object moves in the direction of the force applied.

according to newton, on a frictionless surface in a vacuum which is a isolated system, if a ball is continuously moving then it would never stop, as no force is applied to it. so according to the law of inertia, the object have the tendency to remain in motion always.... then in this isolated system if force is applied to a ball in rest then think the ball would cover an infinite distance then what would be the work \[w=f*s=f*\infty=\infty \] think on this.........what is wrong?

what value of "s" would you take for work if you don't get it, i will tell you later on.........
