how did you get -2?

OpenStudy (radar):

|dw:1413293160999:dw|more start, 38/-19 = -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but that explains noting to me I have no idea how you got any of that..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have never done a problem like this and nobody's taught me how that's kinda why I need somebody to walk me through it all

OpenStudy (radar):

You have a fraction and part of that fraction is 38/-19 That part must be worked out just as if it had been 8/-2 would equal 4. It is division.

OpenStudy (radar):

You have surely completed arithmetic and have reduced common fractions ..right?..

OpenStudy (radar):

What grade are you in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

suppose to be a junior but I haven't been in school for a year and forgot everything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what do I do after I divide?

OpenStudy (radar):

You have been presented a fraction which contains both numerical and literals values. the 38/19 is the numerical portion and is the coefficient, this would be no different than reducing 2/4 to 1/2. You are to divide both numerator and denominator by a common number that will go into both of them thus simplifying the fraction.|dw:1413293764304:dw|
