Carl has just finished reading the first 120 pages of a new best-selling novel. If this number represents 30% of the novel, how many pages are in the entire novel?

OpenStudy (kl0723):

120 = 30% x = 100%.... Cross multiply and get: 30x = 12,000 x=12,000/30, x = 400 pages

OpenStudy (kl0723):

is pretty easy to set up: if 120 pages equals 30% then x pages equal 100% and then cross multiply :P
