@nincompoop

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

1. Create a quadratic function, f(x), in vertex form. The a should be between 4 and –4, the h will be your birth month, and the k will be your birth day. Write your equation below. 2. Using complete sentences, explain how to convert your birthday function into standard form. 3. Graph your function. Include your graph below. 4. Using complete sentences, explain how to find the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 4 to x = 7.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

so what is the birthday you've picked?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

h = 6 k = 26

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

My actual bday :)

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

and it says a between -4 and 4, correct?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

The A should be between -4 and 4 so i chose 2.

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

What did you mention the vertex formula was?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

oops

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

\[ f(x) = 2(x-6)^2 + 26 \]

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

I dunno where to go from here...

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

because the vertex of the parabola is \( (h,k) = (6, 26) \) the equation has the form \( f(x) = a(x-6)^2 + 26 \) \( \sf \color{red}{substitute~ h~ and~ k} \), and because you said you picked 2 as your a it becomes \( f(x) = 2(x-6)^2 + 26 \) so to convert into standard form, we need to expand \( a(x-h)^2 \) by first expanding \( 2(x-h)(x-h) \rightarrow 2(x-6)(x-6) = 2(x^2 - 12x + 36) \) then distribute 2 it becomes \( 2x -24x +72 \) then finally the \( \sf \color{red}{add~the~value~of~k} +26\) \[ f(x) = 2x^2 -24x + 72+26 \]

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Whoa o.o

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

do you need any more clarification?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Not really o.o How would i word this?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

those are the wordings you use

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Okay...next please?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

do you know how to graph a quadratic equation?

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Well I was going to use desmos graphing for that...

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

oh laughing out loud I thought you want to graph it manually

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Anything that you would think would benifit me...

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

it will benefit you to know how to graph

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Then lay it on me sire!
