what was the purpose of the sherman antitrust act

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was to prevent giant monopolies from gaining too much control and forming trusts to oust all competition. Unfortunately it was used in reverse. The sherman anti trust act was used against labor unions to break them up. eventually this was abandoned and the clayton antitrust act was created which was made specifically so that it could not be used against unions.
