Which of the following systems of inequalities would have no solution? y > 3x + 1 y < 3x + 8 y > 2x + 1 y < -3x y > 1/2x + 8 y < -2x -2 y < 3x + 1 y > 3x + 8

OpenStudy (jonnyvonny):

So, what this is saying, is that when you plug in an x-value, the result will have to be true for both equations. In terms of graphs, which will be easiest (and its how i got the answer), is that the shaded region overlaps. The only way it doesn't overlap is when they are parallel:|dw:1413413684395:dw| Its d. OpenStudy (jonnyvonny):

In the terrible picture I drew above, the shaded regions do NOT overlap, meaning that no x value that you put in, will make this inequality true; whatever you put one, won't make both equations true.

thank you.
