Your friend just challenged you to a race. You know in order to beat him, you must run 50 meters within 60 seconds in an eastern direction. What does your average velocity need to be to win the race? .5 meters per second, east .83 meters per second, east 1.2 meters per second, east 3000 meters per second, east

Hi! Any ideas?

I'm thinking (B) but im just guessing

OpenStudy (theeric):

Oddly accurate guess! See, velocity describes two things: 1. Direction - that's east. 2. The displacement to time ratio. You got "east", and the overall displacement to time ratio is 50 meters to 60 seconds. You can say \(\frac{50}{60}\rm m/s\), which is about 0.83 m/s!

:) Thank you so much

You're welcome! :) Good guess!
