In a mixture of concrete, there are two lb of cement mix for each pound of gravel. If the mixture contains a total of 84 lb of these two ingredients, how many pound of gravel are there?

So how would you set u this formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I knew that I wouldn't be asking the question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let c= cement and g = gravel...We know that c+ g = 84 lbs. Correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct

And we also know that in our mix we have 2 bags of cement (c) for each bag of gravel (g)...thus 2c is equivalent to 1 g or 2c = g.... thus if g = 2c we can substitute that in the first equation to solve for c.

I don't understand a word of that, but I got the answer by asking someone it's 56.

*28
