OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

So? Is it against the rules to use profanity in chats or publicly on OS?

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

last time i checked the CoC states thats exactly right it is against the rules yana

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes. From the CoC: Don't be offensive, inappropriate, or creepy! So avoid: \(\bullet\) Insulting, berating, or otherwise discouraging others. \(\bullet\) Cursing and bypassing the language filters. \(\bullet\) Sexual innuendo, or "hitting on people". \(\bullet\) Soliciting personal, private, or offline contact information. \(\bullet\) Any form of racism, sexism, or any other prejudicial "isms". It is not a long one to read and covers the basics of conduct you agree to follow on the site. http://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

its the first one i actually read... on most sites its so large im jusst like.... ooooooooooookk yea... and i know the basics on what to and not to do.... so i jsut ignore it because i dont feel like reading 271 pages on what not to do and/or what is violating rules/law =/

jaynator495 (jaynator495):

but this one was nice and short and sweat... so i actially read it 5 times XD

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Exactly @e.mccormick . So can you ban or give warnings to those who use profanity in chats?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

1. orange war is mod kryptonite, if its orange war, no one's gonna get banned xD 2. mods already ban and give warnings to those who use profanity in chats. some mods are more watchful of chats than others, making some users feel harsher towards some of those mods... as ossf we can help with this by community banning some of those troublesome users :)

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Ok, ok!! Nvm!! Thanx!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jaynator495 why is it sweat?

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Plus I don't think they read the code-of-conduct. Most of the users just...use profanity and I personally don't think that they actually do get warned(from my experience and from what I've seen)

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

When the Orange War is on, the warnings don't go through. Sort of makes it hard to moderate. Also, many people simply don't report. There are not enough mods to be everywhere and frankly, as unpaid volunteers, we would not want to sit on 5 or 10 chats all day. So we rely on reports... which also break in Orange War. The flip side is that while Orange War is on, we do longer suspensions a lot of the time. Then, when a person comes back the next day or day after, they get the message.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Oh, I see!! But Earlier today...There was a mod in the chat and he didn't do anything(Not that I know ofXD.....I guess it's not just my business.) But Okay!! Makes total sense now!!! Thanx!!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, some try to calm things down other ways. Depends on the mod.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

True...Well its much better in chat cuz earlier it was crazy bad! But at least it's all good nowxD!!
