I honestly don't know what there talking about :( An expression is shown below: 2x3y + 8xy - 4x2y - 16y Part A: Rewrite the expression so that the GCF is factored completely. (3 points) Part B: Rewrite the expression completely factored. Show the steps of your work. (4 points) Part C: If the two middle terms were switched so that the expression became 2x3y - 4x2y + 8xy - 16y, would the factored expression no longer be equivalent to your answer in part B? Explain your reasoning. (3 points)
do you want answers or an eplaination?
2x3y + 8xy - 4x2y - 16y --- factor out 2y 2y(x3 + 4x - 2x2 - 8) -- Part A 2y(x - 2)(x^2 + 4) -- Part B They would be the same even if you switched the two middle terms. Because of the associative property which states that swapping the numbers around will still give you the same answer.
