why is prophase important in mitosis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Prophase is important because it's the first step in mitosis. Chromatin begins to condense and is visible in the form of chromosomes. Spindle fibres begin to form as well as centrioles. And also, prophase is important because this is when chromatin becomes chromosomes so the right number of chromosomes can be distributed equally to each daughter cell produced. Hope this helped :)
