It's D. When the plates shift around they occasionally will move to push the earth up causing mountains.

Ill go into a bit further detail just so you can understand a bit better A. It's not A because fossil's only give us more evidence of the layers of the earth not of the plates B. Rocks only give us evidence of the pressure and heat in the earths core. Theres many kinds of rocks. Some shiny some dull, it's always a surprise C. I dont understand C that well myself. D.
