Triangle ABC has been rotated 90° to create triangle DEF. Using the image below, prove that perpendicular lines have opposite and reciprocal slopes. You must show all of your work to receive credit. @waterineyes

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

ik i need to use the perpendicular proof... but idk lol

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

@campbell_st @jhonyy9

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well use the points A(1, 1) and B(4, 5) find the slope then look at the other triangle F (1, 1) and E(5, -4) now find the slope what do you get...?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

oops F is (1, -1) and E is (5, -4)

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

4/3 ?

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

4 / -3

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well AB is correct 4/3 and \[EF = \frac{-1 -(- 4)}{1 - 5}\] so EF = 3/(-4) or EF = -3/4

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

oh ok

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so AB = 4/3 and EF = -3/4 the slopes are opposite in sign( AB positive EF negative) looking at AB = 4/3 the reciprocal is 3/4 so the lines meet the conditions.

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

thank you

OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):

AB or BC ?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

wow we both got it wrong... should be BC...

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

that's correct...
