i'm thinking of a number. I multiply it by 5 and add 49.
I get the same answer if I multiply it by 7 and subtract 9.
What is my number?

so you multiply that number by five and you get 5*x
Also,you need to add 49 to that number,so you get 5*x+49

You will get the same number, if you:

Multiply this number (x) by 7:
7*x
and substract 9 from it.You know, that it is the same number, so it must be equal and you get an equation:

5x+49=7x-9

Solve it and you will get the number;)
