OpenStudy (haltiamali):

Factor this polynomial: 54x^3y-16y^4 Help please? :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[54x^{3y}-16y^{4}\]?

OpenStudy (haltiamali):

\[54x^3y-16y^4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How much do you have to factor it? Do you need to factor it down to quadratics or is factoring out the y fine?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because factoring it down to quadratics gets pretty messy.

OpenStudy (haltiamali):

Um it just says "Factor completely. If the polynomial is not factorable, write prime"

OpenStudy (haltiamali):

I think its just the y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. I'm not sure what write prime means, but if you don't need to bother with the \[a^3-b^3=(a-b)(a^2+ab+b^2)\] type of cubic difference factoring, just factor out the y and you're done.

OpenStudy (haltiamali):

oh okay! thanks
