What are some major characteristics of the Athenian Democracy?
The characteristics of Athenian democracy were that every man that had money could get to vote, women children and slaves were not allowed. they also split up 10 tribes with 50 counsel men in each, therefore, creating a 500 man counsel, also creating a complex system of courts sometimes consisting of up to 6000 men. The Athenian democratic system was made of 6 different roles. 1. The assembly: a regular gathering of male Athenian citizens to listen, discuss and to vote on decrees that would affect everyday life. It was the most central and definitive institution of Athenian democracy. 2. The Council: Made up of 500 members, 50 from each of the 10 tribes, to form the full time government. Each member would only serve for a year. Its main function was to prepare for meetings of the assembly. 3. The committee 4.The president 5. The magistrates 6. The courts !
