Many large coastal cities have “fire boats” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireboat) that are used to fight fires that occur on their waterfronts. These boats have the ability to draw water from below them and shoot it in a jet toward a fire. What force must a boat engine produce to keep the boat stationary while the fire hose shoots a jet at 45 degrees at a volume flow rate of 2.4 m3/s at 10 m/s? Draw a sketch of the boat and its jet and then an appropriate control volume/surface for this problem. Express your answer in both Newtons and pounds. Assume the water is at 15 C.
