A professional cyclist is training for the Tour de France. What was his average speed in miles per hour if he rode the 120 miles from Laval to Blois in 4.7 hours? Use the formula d = rt, and round your answer to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I assume the d = rt is distance=rate/time?

Oh and WELCOME TO OPEN STUDY!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes and thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so if we read through our question again we can see our distance is 120 his rate is unknown and his time is 4.7 miles. So our new equation is 120=R(4.7) Now it's a one step equation. Can you solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer 25.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes or no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! Nice job! Now if we plug in 25.5 in our equation our answer will be 119.85 rounded up will be 120!! Way to go!!

thanks
