Solve: 4|3w+1|-7=17

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

4 | 3w + 1 | - 7 = 17 -- we want to get the absolute value and all that is in it on one side and everything else on the other side. So we will first add 7 to both sides. 4 | 3w + 1 | = 24 --- now divide both sides by 4 | 3w + 1 | = 6 (3w + 1) = 6 3w = 6 - 1 3w = 5 w = 5/3 -(3w + 1) = 6 -3w - 1 = 6 -3w = 7 w = -7/3 solutions are : w = 5/3 and w = -7/3
