Please help will fan and medal! One factor in flood safety along a levee is the area that will absorb water should the levee break. The coordinates that make up the boundary area are (0,0), (2.8, 2.1), and (4.3, 4.4). What is the area of the land that would absorb the area? a) 1.65 mi^2 b) 9.03 mi^2 c) 1.1 mi^2 d) 10.68 mi^2

Find the area of the triangle OBC.
4.4(4.3)/2 - (2.8(2.1)/2 + 1.5(2.1) + 2.3(1.5)/2)
1.645
right?
What formula are you using?
I actually dont know..
my friend was helping me but didnt know what to do past that so yeah idk.
There are two ways I know of to solve this: 1) Knowing the three vertices of a triangle there is a formula that gives the area of the triangle. If the vertices are: \((a_x,a_y), (b_x,b_y), (c_x, c_y)\) then the area of the triangle is: \(\frac 12 |a_x(b_y-c_y) + b_x(c_y-a_y) + c_x(a_y-b_y) | \)
2) Find the length of OC using the distance formula. This can be the base of the triangle. Find the height BD which is the perpendicular distance of point B from OC. There is a formula for finding the perpendicular distance. The area of the triangle = 1/2 * base * height.
i honestly dont know.. and I only have 2 more min because i have to go so can you please help??/
Use the formula in the 1). a_x = 0, a_y = 0, b_x = 2.8, b_y = 2.1, c_x = 4.3, c_y = 4.4. Plug into the area formula I have above in the reply marked 1).
