It was different by economics, politics, and the motives they had. Economics: In the "old imperialism" it was about trade. They had an importance with buying off the natives that brought them the goods. They had trading spots along the coast of South Africa and islands by Asia and England. The "new imperialism" is all about money. They went into coutries and set up plantations, docks, and factories. They didn't want just trade.
