what am i doing wrong?? for x i get 0=24 substitution method -4x+y=7 and 12x-3y=3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

When you get an equation like 0 = 24, that means the system is inconsistent. This is assuming you did everything correctly.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

An inconsistent system has no solutions.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

as jim_thompson5910 said, it'd be inconsisten and thus has no solutions if you solve the 1st equation for "y", what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get y=87

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

87? whatever happened to "x"? it went "missing in action"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the first equation i get y=7+4x i thought you meant what y is when you're already substituting x for y

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ohh yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

.... actually... you're correct it does give 0 = 24 that means as jim_thompson5910 said is inconsisten or has no solution
