if someone can help me out with figuring out how to solve this using substitution that would be awesome my teacher doesn't know how to teach or help Solve the systems using substitution.

6x + 2y = 0
4x + y = -1

y = -4x-1 so 6x + -4x-1= 0

basically solve for one letter, then plug it in the other question so that one equation only has one type of letter. then solve for that letter, then plug it back in the other equation to find the other letter.

4x + y = -1 -- we want to try to get a variable by itself and this equation looks the easiest....subtract 4x from both sides
y = -4x - 1
now we sub -4x - 1 in for y in the other equation
6x + 2y = 0
6x + 2(-4x - 1) = 0 --- distribute through the parenthesis
6x - 8x - 2 = 0 -- add 2 to both sides
6x - 8x = 2 + 0 -- combine like terms
-2x = 2 -- divide both sides by -2
x = -1

now sub -1 in for x in either of your original equations to find y
4x + y = -1
4(-1) + y = -1
-4 + y = -1
y = -1 + 4
y = 3

check your answers..
4x + y = -1
4(-1) + 3 = -1
-4 + 3 = -1
-1 = -1 (correct)

so x = -1 and y = 3
