OpenStudy (anonymous):

Before the Mitosis can begin, there are several things that must happen to a cell. First of all, the cell must be first be grown to twice the regular size. Once that's done, it moves on and copies all the chromosomes so they can be pulled apart and be even in both cells. Then the cell replicates all of its organelles, so each of the daughter cells will be sufficient in organelles. Now, it is ready to go into prophase, which is the first stage in mitosis, the chromosomes must be duplicated.
