What's an easy way to find factors of large numbers?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what do you mean?

OpenStudy (hannaha):

Well, for example i need the factors of 51, what is an easy way to find that?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well... you'd want to see if any really small number can divide so... let's see any number divisible by 2 has to end in an even number so 51 ends with 1, that's odd any number divisible by 3 you can add the digits and see if that yields a known factor 51 or 5 + 1 = 6 so 6 is really divisible by 3 so 51 is also divisible by 3 thus start off with 3 and see how far that can go

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hint: 17 is a prime number

OpenStudy (hannaha):

and a factor of 51

OpenStudy (hannaha):

okay well now i see bc 17 x 3 = 51

OpenStudy (hannaha):

cool
