In the class elections, Connie received 53 more votes than Carl. In all, 221 votes were cast for the two candidates. How many votes did each receive. One point for the equation, one point for the solution

Hello there! You can use the equation \[221 - 53 = x / 2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you solve this or do you need me to walk you through it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you walk me through it pleasE? @ohlookidontunderstandanotherthing

So since theres two people and one got 53 more then the other we can automatically subtract the 53. this leaves us with 168. 168 divided by 2 = 84. one candidate got 84 votes while the other got 137

okay
