The idea that a powerful central government is good for the national. The oppiste view is that of Sate's right where they believe the federal government has a small role in the nation and that the sates should each be allowed to run its own affairs.

States rights is a code word used by conservatives to imply that segeration is ok, that equal employment laws are wrong, and that gays are subjuect to bans and prohibits. They are against healthcare for all and say they want local control. The disapprove of federal banks, the US Dept. of Education and civil rights.
