Think back to “Gumption.” If the narration had been third-person, would you have sympathized as much with the narrator? Why or why not? How did the narration affect you?

I would say you would not have sympathized as much, because stories written in the third person are more detached emotionally than stories written in the first person. first person allows you to get a deeper look into the protagonist and his/her thoughts and feelings, while in third person, not so much.
