New York City is comprised of 5 Boroughs - Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Although some are pushing for a sixth borough, The Governor's Island. New York City is one of the most densely populated (per square inch) metropolitan in the world, and as a result is one of the most diverse place. Most people are largely democratic, but are fiscally conservative. It is the financial hub of the world (Wall Street), which also means it attracts many wealthy and well-to-do people that makes the real estate sky high especially in Manhattan. Public transportation is convenient, and though highly criticized, is reliably frequent. Convenience is considered a necessity as many people are unusually busy or immersed with some sort of work (even being a student is a job). There are many bars, coffee-shops, Star-bucks, cheap (relatively speaking) and expensive places for social gathering. Events are endless, may it be just for kicks or for a greater cause. Emergency response units are under five minutes. And the crime rate... well see for your self http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-6/output.xls Many talented and intelligent people were born, or grew up in NYC. Kareem Abdul Jabar, a basketball hall of fame; Joseph Barbera, an animator and one of the founders of the Hannah-Barbera, which produced Yogi Bear, The Flinstones, The Jetsons and Scooby Dooh, and maybe more that I didn't watch as a kid; a lot of musicians (if you considered rap a music); household scientist names other than Einstein such as Carl Sagan, Richard Feynman,Steven Weinberg, the not so famous Robert Oppenheimer, the list goes on. I'll probably add some more later.
