The Time I Got Princess The moment I laid eyes on Princess, I knew I had to have her. It was a sunny day. I was only nine years of age and my family and I just finished eating at Thai House. I begged my mother to go to Petland and reluctantly agreed. She did not want another dog. I went in the store and went straight to the puppies with my sister. It was love at first sight. From the moment we saw Princess, we both knew she was the one. I saw her playing with her best friend and then they both fell asleep a minute later. Then I asked my mom if I could play with her and the worker heard me so she immediately took Princess out of the cage. If the worker was not there, mother would not have let me play with her. Princess was still tired when she brought her out. She did not really want to play, not even with her favorite toy. The most she would do was bite my shoe laces. I sat down on the floor a few inches away from her and she crawled into my lap and fell asleep. I knew she had picked me and I told mom I wanted her. Mom said she was too fragile and would not last a day with me. We went home and “sissy”, my sister Kristina, asked me what I should name her. I was thinking the name Sara, but before I said anything sissy said not Sara. I thought a few more seconds and asked, “How about Princess?” My sister liked the name and said, “Yeah, that’s a good name.” A few days later I saw my dad and told him about her. He asked me what she looked like, so I told him that she was cute, tiny, and gentle. I could not remember the colors on her at the time. A few days later he came to my school and surprised me. This girl at my old school came to put me in my car and said, “Look at that guy with the puppy, it’s so cute!” I told her I did not see anyone, but that was because I was looking in the opposite direction. When I finally did spot him, I ran to him and screamed, “Princess!” I proceeded to snatch the dog from him. Then the girl asked me if she was mine and I said, “Now she is.” Then dad got into the car with me and sissy was in the back seat. Mom did not even know about Princess until I got in the car. On the way home they asked me if I decided on a name and I told them the name my sister and I agreed on. Dad said she was very playful and hyper. I said that did not sound like her. I soon found out she was a Miniature Rat Terrier. Mom decided to let me keep her so we made a trip to Walmart to get her treats and a collar. Even though I gave Princess the option to pick her own collar, I kept pushing a pink one and even a blue one. She apparently only liked the color red, so we got her the red collar with white paws on it. We finally brought her home and we had to introduce her to the other dogs. My sister and I rubbed her scent allover our hands and pet Casey and Serina. Neither of them minded her scent so we figured they would be fine with meeting her. We put Princess and Serina in the living room together and the first thing Princess did was assault her. Princess was jumping on top of her and would not stop because she wanted to play. Serina was not very strong and did not have a lot of energy so we knew that there was going to be trouble in the future. We introduced her to Casey and Princess kept biting her ears but she was fine with it because Serena did that to. The first few weeks Princess slept in a big box with a towel and a few toys that I gave to her but she would always start barking at night time because her box got dirty. Her favorite toy was Wormy the Worm. He had the colors of a rainbow and rattled. Mom let her and wormy sleep on her pillow in her bed. About two weeks later dad came over and that is when I realized how small she was. I got this idea to dress her up in my doll clothes and she was still a little tiny in them but she liked them. The clothes kept her warm, then I showed mom and dad and Princess fell asleep in my arms. I also had this stroller from my dolls so I put her in it. I would always stroll her around the house. We finally got her first kennel. We took lots of pictures of her. Some of them looked like she had an attitude. We have a great bond and did everything together. We ate together, slept together, watched television together, and a lot more too. Every day I came home from school she was always screaming at the top of her lungs. The first time she did that I thought she got hurt or something happened. Then the second day she did it I realized nothing was wrong, she just missed me and she did not like me going in the outside world. The outside world is what we call the backyard, front yard, or anywhere else besides the inside of our house. Princess had her first snow day in 2011. It was a chilly afternoon and my sister and I went outside to play. We took Princess out and she did not know what the snow was. Her paws were freezing cold and it tickled her nose when it came down. My sister and I were having so much fun throwing snowballs, making snowmen, and creating snow angels. Princess just kept playing with Casey and running around all crazy. I guess she was trying to warm up. We have this huge hill in our backyard so my sister said if we got the lid from the big bin in her closet then we could slide down. We tried it but it did not go exactly as planned. The lid would not move out of the snow. After that, we all got into our mom’s bathtub and warmed our hands and feet. Then I made some hot chocolate on the stove and we made s’mores together in the microwave. I particularly remember this one day we took Princess to the vet to get her yearly shots. They had to muzzle her to actually make her get the shot. She fought till the end and she is strong and fast. When we came home it must have been around six o’clock so we let her outside. It was around ten o’clock when we went to bed and Princess would not stop scratching and I could not fall asleep. So finally I got up and turned the lights on to take her out of her cage. I could not believe what I saw. Her face was huge. It was all swollen and itchy. Then I ran to mom and woke her up saying, “I think something’s wrong with Princess!” She got up and saw her then she told me to rinse her off in the tub. I did what she told me to do and I told her how I found out she was like that. Then mom looked on the internet for a reason why her face would swell up. Then Mom said that Princess was acting like that because she could not breathe. We finally went to the emergency room and they took her in right away. They told me it was an allergic reaction to something and we thought it might have been the shots but I did not think so because she had the same shots every year. They gave her some Benadryl and her face went back to normal. We got a picture of her like that and she still has a lot of loose skin around her neck from that day. They said if this ever happened again then give her a very small amount of the Benadryl since she was so tiny. A few months ago we went to the vet to get her shots again. They said they had to give her the shots one by one. She had to get three shots so, we decided to give her one each week. They had to keep her for a few hours, so I started crying because I did not know who these people were. All I knew was Princess did not like them. They said she would be fine. I still did not like them. They took my baby away from me. I was not even allowed to see her until they were done observing her. It was only about three hours but it felt like a whole day. I had to go through that three times. She was not allergic to any of the shots. They assumed that she just got stung, but I don’t think so because I checked her every single day. I know every single hair, birthmark, and scratch on her. I never figured out what was wrong with her that day, but today she is a happy four- year- old child. Later on, my sister worked at the same place that we got her and found out her nickname before we got her was cupid. I never realized her face was the shape of a heart until the person who took care of her back then told us. Every year Santa brings her the biggest bone he can find and the family gets her the same exact bone for her birthday on January 11. We have had so many experiences together and they will continue forever.

Very good, if I may offer some feedback... Your writing is very chronological, which being a memoir makes sense. However, this lacks a component of the possibility of foreshadowing or something else. Other than that great job, keep it up.
