Juan, Sam, Miki, and Trisha used different first steps to solve the inequality 4.5 – 2.3x < 8.3x – 3.1. Which student’s first step was incorrect, and why? - Juan added 2.3x to both sides of the inequality to get 4.5 < 10.6x –3.1. - Sam added 3.1 to both sides of the inequality to get 7.6 – 2.3x < 8.3x. - Miki subtracted 8.3x from both sides of the inequality to get –3.8 –2.3x <–3.1. - Trisha subtracted 4.5 from both sides of the inequality to get –2.3x < 8.3x – 7.6.

a. Juan was incorrect because he made a sign error. b. Sam was incorrect because he did not apply the addition property of inequality properly. c. Miki was incorrect because the terms he added were not like terms. d. Trisha was incorrect because she did not combine the variable terms first.

I believe Miki's answer is incorrect, because she didn't subtract properly..she was supposed to subtract -2.3x - 8.3x, but she didn't.
