When analyzing a scatterplot with a cluster, why should outliers generally be excluded when interpreting the relationship of the variables?

Outliers show a deviation from data and when performing calculations, or average, they generally affect the values and standard deviation.

But, if you're reporting this in a research paper, you need to make sure that you report WHY you excluded the outlier from the data and provide an explanation as to what may have caused this.
