How should y=mx+b be interpreted or read in the context of a word problem?

OpenStudy (woodrow73):

You can say that y = mx + b represents a line... you can say that that line has a slope of (m), and intercepts the y axis at b, and for any coordinate point x or y that you plug into the equation y = mx + b, you will find the other coordinate point- and the coordinate will be a spot on the line y = mx + b.
